Draw

This is the comprehensive explanation of UEFA's seeding system and draw procedure.

Country ranking

Every country receives two points for every victory of its team and one point for draw. Cups' qualification matches are counted half and bonus points are awarded for participation in Champions' League group stage and quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of all cups. The country coefficient for one year is the sum of all earned points in that year divided by number of participating clubs. The sum of five consecutive year coefficients gives value for country rank. This value will be used for club ranking in next season and for determination of number of participating clubs in season after next.

Club ranking

Club coefficient is the sum of half country coefficent and points earned in cup by that club (including bonus points, but without points from qualifications). The sum of five consecutive year coefficents gives value for club rank. This value will be used for seeding in next season.

Draw procedure

Clubs participating some round are always divided in two groups - seeded and unseeded. Seeded group contains the half of clubs better ranked by club ranking. Before that they can be divided by geographical criteria in some smaller groups, but not always. If the draw takes place before the previous round has ended, the pairs are seeded as club with better coefficient in that pair.
